Fort Jefferson
Posted on July 12, 2010 in Architecture:

A little known piece of American history is sitting in Key West, Florida. Fort Jefferson sits at Dry Tortugas National Park, where the military base with a moat sits out in the middle of the ocean. Construction started in 1846, but was abandoned until the Navy used it momentarily in 1899. Now it stands unoccupied as park of a National Park. It is currently the largest masonry building in the Western Hemisphere.
