From age four to 16 I lived under the iron-fisted tutelage of a clan of Kung Fu monks, studying without rest from sunup till sundown — except Thursdays, when Project Runway was on — in preparation for the day when their superhuman powers would be bestowed upon me and I would carry on their thousand-year legacy of justice, honor, and fashion-forward flare. Finally the time came, kneeling at the foot of the temple stairs, my head bowed, ready for enlightenment. Susie Lowe aka Suzko is a 25-year-old artist specializing in portraiture and figurative work. Suzko takes her inspiration from the city, urban life and street art – especially graffiti, and Manga. That, however, does not to exclude traditional art forms: the renaissance period and the old masters of Italy. She usually works from photographs because “it’s easy to do a straight copy of a photograph, but the fun for me is finding that unique quality in each individual and being able to portray that [in my work].” For the last year she has been experimenting with a new style; using Posca pens on canvas primarily used by graffiti artists, which creates a poster / pop-art feel, in bright fluro colors. Australian artist Erin Smith uses individual letters to create a visual journal that explores the idea that words can have many different meanings, and can be associated with a number of different objects, all of which are dependent on the viewer. In the creation of image through letters there will forcibly be large amounts of white space and it is often this negative space that defines, and informs the meaning. This is also true in the spoken word; often it is what we do not say, rather than what we do that defines us. (more…)

Aleix Gordo Hostau is a self-taught artist from Barcelona, Spain. Having entered the art world at an early age, Hostau quickly developed a unique style that has afforded him extensive commercial assignments with the likes of Pepe Jeans London, Nestea and Montana Colors. Specializing in what the artist refers to as “pop-urban style,” Hostau takes most of his influence for a broad range of artistic disciplines, some of which include graffiti and street art, Japanese wood engraving and American pop art.
