Sruli Recht 1

The Sruli Recht studio is a small cross-disciplinary practice caught somewhere between product design, tailoring and shoe making. Based in Reykjavík, the studio produces one “non-product” every month from umbrellas to bulletproof scarves, tables, to belts and boots, and incorporating such materials as concrete, diamonds, skin and wool. Burak Kaynak is a multi-disciplinary designer who is working in 3 different cities; Amsterdam, Istanbul and Toronto. He holds a Bachelor of Advertising degree from Canada, and a Bachelor of Design degree from Turkey. He received numerous honors and awards for his performance in advertising and marketing. After working with well-known clients in advertising, he discovered his passion for design and decided to become nothing special so that he could inspire others independently! His work makes him receive e-mails everyday with one repeated question; “Where can I buy?”. He likes to say “If I’m not surprising myself, no wonder I’m boring you!”. Lana Crooks spent her formative years in South Florida. During high school she was deemed most likely to become a pirate, and began to amass a seaworthy crew. The crew sailed to Savannah and attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. Lana pilfered herself a BFA in Illustration in twenty ought two. One day, on a whim, she made an expedition to Chicago and made it home, trading the ocean for a giant lake. Originally an illustrator, Captain Crooks eventually took to sewing and began work as a freelance costume designer. In what seems like a natural progression, plush became her main focus in 2007 with her Octoplush series; a series based on her love of cephalopods. (more…)

The Luxury of Protest 01

The Luxury of Protest is the design practice of Peter Crnokrak. Peter is a London-based designer who came to the field from a research career in the sciences—transitioning into design following a postdoctoral tenure in quantitative genetics at the University of Toronto. After working under the moniker ± and positions at The Apartment in New York and Nick Bell Design in London, Peter established The Luxury of Protest in 2008. (more…)
